"First" FAQ's
What is the giving campaign financial goal?
The financial goal of the "First" campaign is to raise $10,000,000 total dollars over the next two years, which is inclusive of both our general giving over two years, our First Fruits offering over two years, and an investment in our capital building project.
Who makes the decisions? Who has the oversight?
The RLMT Elders have oversight of the giving campaign. For the duration of the campaign, the overall fiduciary and operational responsibilities sit with the Elders of RLMT. This group provides the ongoing leadership needed to ensure transparency and integrity over the life of the campaign’s key priority areas.
Does this campaign replace my tithe or my general giving?
No, this campaign does not replace your tithe or your general giving, but it does include it plus your expanded giving and stored resources as part of this special season. All of our normal offering that typically is given is included in this “one fund” over a two-year period. We are asking that you pray and commit to your regular giving as well as your expanded giving and gifts from stored resources. Some of you may even be giving for the very first time, and that is wonderful! All of those gifts will be a part of your total campaign commitment together.
What’s the difference between this campaign and our annual First Fruits offering?
We will be including our standard First Fruits offering that we take every year in our capital campaign. So, the first 10% of one fund will go to First Fruits, roughly $500,000 a year if we meet our goal. So when you are making your commitment, take that into consideration when determining your number. We would encourage you to include what you would normally give for the First Fruits offering in your campaign commitment number over a two-year period.
Is it ok to give to the campaign in my company’s name?
Of course. If you own your own company, you can give from your company, from your personal income, from an appreciated stock or real estate gift, from an IRA-qualified charitable distribution, or from any other number of assets.
What if my company has a matching gift program, does that help?
Certainly. Many business owners and/or executive-level professionals are employed by companies that may offer this charitable benefit option. It is worth exploring if you or your spouse has a corporate matching program. Contact finance@reallifetexas.org to provide matching gift information.
Are there additional ways besides cash that I can give more towards First?
Be creative as you explore ways you and your family can contribute towards the First campaign. You might have some stocks, property, or other items of that nature. Or you may have some stored resources that God has blessed you with in the past that He might be calling you to give out of during this time. Please let us know if you need assistance with facilitating gifts of property or stock, and we would be happy to help you with that. You can contact Executive Pastor Tommy Roberson at troberson@reallifetexas.org or 979-864-7805 to make a gift of this type.
Are gifts to the giving campaign tax deductible?
Yes! RLMT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. EIN 81-1153368
What is the timeline for construction and completion?
This is the cool thing, construction is already underway! We anticipate being in our new worship space in the Fall, sometime in September.
Are we going to become a mega church?
A mega-church is often defined as a church with over 1000 people on a Sunday Morning attendance. RLMT has held a Sunday morning attendance of over 1000 for more than 3 years. We have never been focused nor will we be on “success” or health in the church being a Sunday Morning attendance number. We are ruthlessly committed to maintaining the relational environment and disciple-making culture at RLMT, which gives it an intimate feel. God has been and always will be responsible for the number and how big we grow.
Can I give anonymously?
Yes. At any point in time, a giver is always welcome to give anonymously, campaign or no campaign. Just so you are aware, this will mean that your gift will not be recorded under your giver profile and that you won’t receive a record of it for your taxes at the end of the year. If you would like to receive a tax credit, please give it in a trackable way! Rest assured that the same level of confidentiality that we currently handle gifts with normally will be the same level of confidentiality with which these campaign gifts are handled as well.
Are there going to be other ways we are bringing in income?
Yes. With the addition of some of the new ministry areas, we will anticipate some income coming in from these new ministries.
What’s going to be new over there?
Not only will we have a new place of worship but also more and different ministry opportunities.
- Real Life Counseling and Care
- Real Life Sports and Outdoors
- Lionheart Preschool
Is every ministry going to have their own space in the new building?
We are moving into a bigger space with more room. However, Real Life has been and will continue to be a Church that uses all our space as much as possible. This means every ministry will still have to share space with other ministries just on a larger scale.
Can I come fish in the pond?
You can! We will be planning some new outdoor ministry times where we are even fishing together!
What are giving donations?
Giving donations are gifts made to a nonprofit from a donor’s assets. They might be gifts of cash, securities, real estate, or other assets.
How do campaigns raise money?
Money is raised for giving campaigns through commitment meetings, as well as, one-on-one individual solicitation of large gifts from individual donors. Though most campaigns end with broad-based fundraising, most of the money given to a campaign comes from large gifts solicited through an individualized approach.
How does a nonprofit raise money for a building project?
Money for a building project often comes from varied sources. Many nonprofits combine several funding streams to cover the cost of a building project. Those might include:
- cash reserves
- loans
- revenue from the sale of the current property
- revenue raised through a giving campaign
What are you asking me to do?
First and foremost, we are asking that you pray and seek God’s leading on what He is asking of you. Prepare your heart to hear Him, and then listen to what He says. Engage in a small group during this season, if you haven’t already engaged in one. Engage in personal reflection with God in the bible study in your giving campaign booklet. Talk with your group, your spouse, your family, friends, or others about what this commitment will mean for this next exciting season of your life.
We are asking that you make a commitment to discipleship-focused, gospel-driven, Jesus-centered generosity – whatever it is that God leads you to do. Follow His leading.
Finally, prepare to be amazed. It is an awesome God that we serve, and we anticipate He will move in huge ways as we seek an unprecedented impact from our collective commitments.

How long is my commitment?
We are asking that everyone make a two-year commitment. The fulfillment period for your commitment will begin in May 2024 and it will culminate in April of 2026.
What if I have never even given to Real Life Ministries Texas before?
First was crafted specifically with you in mind. First is a "one fund" generosity endeavor, meaning that it is different from a traditional capital campaign where you are called to give an extra gift above and beyond your normal giving - thus creating two steps for people who aren't yet giving. First is a call to surrendered, discipleship-focused, gospel-driven generosity for absolutely everyone at Real Life Ministries Texas. If you have never given before, this is your chance to get in the game with committed giving. We really hope you will.
How long is my commitment?
First is about the vision for our church and our personal discipleship in giving as followers of Jesus. We believe that the local church is one of the most compelling missions to give towards, and we would really love for you to make Real Life Ministries Texas your home and join us in First. If you are ready for it, this is a perfect time for you to put a stake in the ground and make this your church. We need you on the team!
