THE ONENESS THAT HE DESIGNED FOR US

Most everything I thought that was wrong with our marriage was my wife’s fault. Most everything my wife thought was wrong with our marriage was my fault. After 26 years of marriage, it wasn’t until re|engage that we focused on working on ourselves rather than on each other. The sin within each of us was and is the problem in our marriage.
When my wife and I were asked to be re|engage small group facilitators, I assumed that it was because we were married for a long time and had the appearance of a good marriage. We did have the world view of a good marriage. What we have come to realize is that God’s ideal of marriage in the Bible is far greater than the world view and we can truly only love our spouse with his help.
While God was working to help us shepherd couples as small group facilitators, he was also working miracles in our marriage. He has enlightened us to see our brokenness. He has helped us to be humble and extend grace. He has made us aware of the lies the world and the enemy tell us and helped us rebuke those lies. He has led us to a full confession of our sins and to true forgiveness for those sins. We are finally able to communicate well. We are no longer slaves to pride, anger, and avoidance.
As we continue to walk with the Lord and get closer to him, we continue to grow closer to each other and experience the oneness that he designed for us. I am so grateful that he placed us in re|engage! For the first time in 26 years, I can say I’m married to my best friend.
